I am a total germaphobe. I have known this about myself and have been teased about this for a number of years.
Yesterday, while in church, I was seated next to a young boy about 8 or 9 years old. There is a part in the mass where you hold hands during the recitation of the Our Father. In one motion, this boy wiped his hand across his nose, reached over and took my hand in his.

Then I had to take the host in my dirty hand and transfer it to my mouth. I felt that was at least more sanitary than letting the Eucharistic Minister place it on my tongue. (How many tongues do those hands touch?) And I never, ever, stop to sip the wine. Not enough wiping in the world will take away everyone-ahead-of-me's germs.
Our family is also suffering from a nasty stomach virus. So far, I've been spared. (See? All that hand washing pays off!) Today, I sanitized our house to get rid of this germ. It feels great! Almost too great. I realize how much dirt and germs must make me uneasy on a daily basis. I'm also realizing that I'm a bit weird.
One more hour until our son comes home bringing with him all the germs he picked up in school (but hopefully no cooties).
