First of all, thanks for the good thoughts on Wed. So far, so good. I'll keep you updated with Jack's progress.
As Father's day is almost here, I'd like to list a few things I love about my dad.
He is gentle and kind.
He is ALWAYS there for us.
He loves having raised all daughters and never felt like he needed a son.
He nurtured my interest in the outdoors, US history and the Cubs.
He taught me that family is more important than any job will ever be.
He gave me self worth and a healthy self esteem which, in turn, allowed me to choose a wonderful, caring husband.
When I was very young, he would carry me in his arms while we walked around the yard checking out his garden. He would probably continue this habit today if he could manage to lift a 140+ pound daughter.
When I was a kid, he bought me a baseball glove and we played catch often.
When I was in college, he would fill up and wash my car each weekend I came home.
When I lived at home after college, he would start my car each morning so it was warm when I left for work.
When I finally moved out of the house, he would drive by my condo in the early morning and scrape the frost and snow from my car windows.
When we got married, he cried as he walked me down the aisle.
When we bought our house, I came home from work one day to find that he had come by and planted all our flowers.
When we had children, he became the best grandfather on earth.
Someone once told me I was spoiled by my dad. I don't think it's considered spoiled when his love and actions are appreciated so much that I have a love for him too large to be expressed in words.
He will be 79 this year and I don't know what the future holds. I treasure each day with my dad who has been the greatest father I could ever had hoped for.
Thanks, I love you, and Happy Father's Day, Dad.
