For kids, Halloween is THE holiday of the year. They love it. Our boys could hardly sleep the night before. They awoke early the next morning more eager than they are on Christmas morning. Think of the money we'd save if all we gave them at Christmas was candy. They'd be happier too. I think I'm onto something here.
I had to wait until today to post because yesterday I was busy recovering (sleeping) from the big day on Tuesday. Truly, I felt hungover yesterday. Okay, so my headache had more to do with my fluxuating hormones than it did with Halloween, but the fatigue is definitely related to all the festivities. I compare the day to a horse race...the bell rings, gates fly open, and we're off and running. We go, go, go -- parties, parades, tricks and treats. By 7pm, we turn out the lights, flop down on the couch and crash. The race is over.
I have decided that people fall into two categories: Those who love Halloween, and those who hate it. I fall into the "love it" category. Perhaps it's my introvertish nature that takes a day off each year to come out and show the creative me that's hidden inside. The only reason that I no longer dress up is that the other parents at the kids' schools don't. Each year, with hopeful anticipation, I make the suggestion to my co-room mom, "Do you want to dress up for the kids?" Each year, I get the same response, "Umm. No." Dang.
This year, however, the creative me took a day off. I bought the kids' costumes at Wal-Mart. They both wore masks. If it's not bad enough that they now wear store-bought costumes, this year I didn't even get creative with face make-up. Oh well. It was easy and stress-free and they still looked cute.
The pumpkins were carved entirely on their own (with the help of a pattern.)
Yesterday, I thought of a great costume for our older son for next year. You'll have to check back a year from now to see what it is.

TSK always makes Halloween special. Since we met, Halloween has always been celebrated with costumes. Before kids, we dressed up ourselves coutesy of her creativity. Perhaps she will post some pix from our past?
The kids look great -- and as a reader, I give a thumb's up to TMS's suggestion!
Thumbs up from me too. Too bad our kids don't go to the same school....I would dress up with you. My mom always dressed up with me for Halloween and we went together Trick-or-Treating..... It was alot of fun and I got a real kick out of it. Once my sister was born (I was 10) I was done trick-or-treating but I dressed up to go with her. Of course, although at 10 I thought I was too old, I secretly liked it.
