Does anyone else think that all these voting problems would be solved if they had young people running the precincts?
The average age of the precinct volunteer is about 82 years old. They grew up well beyond the computer age. They can't figure out cell phones or gas pumps. They never mastered the VCR and now we're trying to teach them how to work DVDs, DVRs, etc., etc. Yet, these seniors are trained to help teach us how to work the new computerized ballot process.
I witnessed a number of problems in the 30 minutes I stood in line. No one knew where to go. People were leaving their marked paper ballots on top of the reader and walking out. One volunteer was yelling to another about how to do this or that. I finally stepped in to help an elderly lady find her line. Apparently I had learned more in my 30 minutes in line than they had during their training.
I got to thinking. I'm 43 years old. Although I didn't miss the computer age, I certainly missed the video game age (I can't say I'm saddened by that). However, even I have trouble sometimes at the gas pump or programming TiVO. TMS always laughs at my feebleness. I laugh too but have realized it comes with age.
Let's get some twenty-somethings in the precincts. The results would be so accurate that 'dubya's party would never again be able to steal another election.

But Kraut, if I had been a pollster in my twenties that would have been the highest poll room in Illinois.
I hope I haven't offended KF by suggesting that 'dubya fixed the elections. I just got done watching "Hacking Democracy" on HBO and was all fired up. From now on, I will keep my strong political feelings to myself.
