Halloween fun was had by all

The best part about your children going to a new school? You get to repeat old Halloween costumes!

Once your children are in school, Halloween becomes the busiest day of the year for Mom's. You hit the ground running and you don't stop until you drop into bed at night. Between costumes, make-up, parades, parties and trick-or-treating, it's really fun, but exhausting.

Our old next door neighbor called me in the morning and told me that she would miss spending Halloween with us. I love our new home but it's times like this I miss the fun of our old neighborhood.

The boys went off on their own for the first time so The Swede and I grabbed a drink and went walking around the neighborhood with another couple and their four-year-old. We met up with another group who poured us some of their drinks. We had a couple of drinks back at our house with friends after the kids came home. I suddenly had a bright idea. "Swede? Would you like to go to our old neighborhood before trick-or-treating ends?"

We entered our old neighbor's house where all the kids where running around in sugar-induced hysteria and the adults were up in the kitchen in cosmo-induced laughter. We had a ball! After a few hours, we had to tear ourselves away from the fun -- it was a school night after all. Our little one was so tired, by the time I walked up the stairs to tuck him in, he was already fast asleep, still in his clothes.

The Swede woke up at 3am still feeling the buzz of the night before and our neighbor called me the next day to tell me she slept in and brought her daughter in late for school.

My question is...when did Halloween become a big drinking party for the "grown-ups"?

We haven't gotten there yet.

However, we do have the "hit the ground running" thing down and this is with only one in preschool. I can't imagine when they both have parties and the such going on.

We spend the majority of time on Halloween in the car. Living in the country has its downfalls, this being one.

We have to drive a 25 mile radius to catch all of the family. It takes us from 5-10 to make only 6-7 stops.

Talk about tired.

Oh, you're right. That is one advantage to living in the more crowded suburbs.
