My Penguin Moment

Our boys were in rare form this morning. i say rare form, but acutally, it's not that rare. They are each others best buds. They are very close and play together constantly. They miss one another when one of them is away. And...they fight. They fight a lot. They're brothers, what can I say? I grew up in a house full of girls so I don't understand the way boys fight with each other. They wrestle -- all the time.

This morning, I wasn't in the mood. I was up half the night unable to sleep. The other half of the night, I was crowded by our 6-year-old who saw the light on and decided to snuggle in with me. I woke up very tired with a total lack of patience. We were rushed getting out the door and into car to go off to school. When I approached the car, I could hear the fighting already. I was fed up with our older boy picking on our younger one for no apparent reason, making our younger son screech in return. After listening to both of them blame the other for what was happening, I snapped. I contorted my body around in my seat to have a better angle to reach the beasts. I grabbed the plastic sword sheath - the object over which they each claimed was rightfully theirs, and swung. I swung first at the older boy, then at the younger one. It was eerily similar to the Penguin from Blues Brothers. Maybe they'll start to shape up when I master the float across the floor.

disclaimer: neither child was hurt during this event.

As Joliet Jake said..... "Looks like you're up $hit creek without a paddle."

With a paddle is more like it.
