44, The New 28

My sister told me it would happen at 40.

It actually took until I turned 42 for me to notice it's signs.

I'm talking about aging.

At some point in your early 40's, your eyesight goes, you get age spots, a sore back, gray hair, your hands get veiny, your feet aren't pretty anymore...

I turn 44 next month. I'm wondering how that can possibly be when I feel just 28 years old.

My eyes are getting bad. I own about 6 pair of reading glasses but can find not a single pair. I can barely find anything in this move.

For a couple of years now, I'vew been standing in front of a 5X magnification mirror while I apply my make-up each morning. My sister and I joke that without this magnification, we look like we're in soft-focus. And let me tell you, everything looks better that way.

Since January or February, I've been without my beloved mirror. I've also been so busy with work, moving, decorating, unpacking, etc. that I've really neglected my appearance. However, in my soft-focus world, I didn't think things were looking too badly.

Then, on Sunday, The Swede hung the mirror. I got a good, hard, clear look at myself for the first time in two months.

Yowza! The eyebrows!!

The gray roots!!

The mascara that in my hazy view appeared to be on my lower lashes but in reality was sitting smeared on my low lids.

The liquid make-up that hadn't been blended and was stuck in my bushy brows.

Oh Good Lord! Was this mirror a blessing or a curse?

I tweezed until the top half of my face turned into two red, swollen circles.

I dabbed, concealed and blended until all visible freckles, age spots, and make-up lurking in my eyebrows were gone.

I noticed something that no make-up can fix. The older I get, the higher on my forehead my eyebrows are getting.

What's up with that?

Ahh...to be 28 again....

I am laughing because at 30, aside from my eyesight, all of those things are happening to me.

I used to have pretty feet. In fact once a man commented on them. Now, they are hideous. I blamed in on pregnancy. They seem flatter and wider. YUCK.

I am going tonight for a dye job for the gray that is becoming more and more prevalent.

Since my eyes are in relatively good shape I don't have a magnifying mirror, but I didn't need one with the intensity of natural light in my bathroom. I could see all too well.

My answer? Last week I painted it a much darker color. Problem solved.

However, judging from your pictures, you have nothing to worry about. You look great!

With the exception of one person, I would say that all of my female friends in their 40s look better now than they did at 28.

An older, female girlfriend said to me, "Just think. When you look at pictures of yourself from now twenty years from now you are going to realize how hot you were."

You are one hot mama, 44 or not!

Just wait until we are old enough to get those disgusting thick toenails. Ewwww....

TBF-
Who? Who? Who is it? Do I know her? Is it me?

OTJ-
You're right. I think when I was a kid, I pictured myself an old lady at 44. At least I'm doing better than that.

Ok, I think I am in ok shape with reference to your post. My eyes are ok, although I do wear glasses. Wrinkles and age spots, nope not yet. phew, gray hair, um, yeah guilty but only by my temples. My only problem is that I can not keep up with both my toddler boys. I get tired fast. I still think I can play volleyball, but am only a shadow of what I use to be. sigh, youth is wasted on the young. BTW, I'll be 43 in a few months.

Sweetie pie, I am 28 and everything that you mentioned is happening to me. Perhaps I need to take more vacations and relax. Got the gray hair, bad eye site, veiny hands, softness around the eyes and I can't stay up past 9pm.

I just hit the 44 mark myself, and got my prescription no-line bi-focals last year. They are wonderful, and there are no lines, so it is not too obvious! I sure could use one of those magnifying mirrors tho, I never even thought of that, I think I will have to go get myself one. Molly
By the way, you do not look 44 !
